In accordance with iKlsR's comment, here is a list of posts which would benefit from MathJaX. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to add to it as you like. Update: Now that MathJax is turned on, please update this list to show which posts have been successfully converted. Question How to understand the math behind Andrew Price's embedding his beer within ...

This was bound to show sooner or later so here it is. Cons We run the risk of people just posting tutorial videos as answers Answers with videos as a large portion of their body would be very delicate as if the video is pulled or deleted, so goes the answer We run the risk of people making full videos of their problems and adding it as a question source ...

.Blend upload and storage Although many downsides could be seen, the number one most common comment on a question is a variant of "Could you upload your .blend, thanks!" Often it is the easiest way to trouble shoot issues, since images can only tell so much, and it takes a lot of time to reconstruct situations. Blend files are also valuable to answers as ...

< KBD > button There was a discussion on this, which largely panned off into a user-scripts party :D! But in all seriousness, I think we need this. Without user scripts, which I dislike for various reasons. Typing out <kbd></kbd> is a really big pain, and makes me flinch every time I'm in Firefox or another chrome user without the script. ...

An average image posted in a question or answer has roughly 500kb. Sometimes a few images are required to explain an issue or answer to illustrate the steps of a solution. The size of a single .blend file can be easily exceeded by posting multiple images. Having that said, I think we should ask on SO-meta or the community manager whether another different ...

I got the email from iKlsR regarding this request. I have now enabled highlighting of code section by default - using the default of python. From the few posts I have looked at that do have python, it looks good. Let me know if there are any issues with this.

I think it'd be nice stay audio free, text's much easier to translate too. Sometimes step by step instructions are unreasonable/too-verbose. In such cases we can already use APNGs & GIFs, as shown in in this awnser.

We could use some API queries to get real numbers on those questions, rather than judging the state-of-affairs by how things appear to us. (prone to confirmation bias) I can only speak for my own reasons to vote: The topic interest me, and the post was informative I know enough about a topic to feel my vote is a good indicator for other users. Reasons ...

This mechanism is already in place. When you see an answer like that, click the "flag" button and select "it needs ♦ moderator attention > not an answer". Optionally, you can leave a comment explaining why the answer should be a comment. This will alert a moderator1. Moderators can convert the answer to a comment if they see fit. As far as downvoting, it's ...

When the site is about ready to graduate, the SE team will ask a question here on our meta looking for ideas about how the finished site will look. This will include the logo and graphic design. The team will design us a custom branding which will include the logo. https://english.meta.stackexchange.com/q/400/24168 is one site's design suggestions and you ...

There should already be a ^blender$ intrinsic tag blacklist. All sites (betas, at any rate) have this.

This feature reminder is already active across the network. It is a bit of just-in-time learning geared towards newer users. Once you have (I believe) 1000 rep, the prompt is no longer displayed.

I think it might be useful to implement a Featured Artwork header decided by a weekly or monthly competition. We could have an artwork gallery that the header is randomly chosen from every day. This would accelerate learning, promote participation, and make people more interested in general. There are some downsides to it, but I think in light of the ...

I want to officially endorse a proper built in integration (so any staff wondering across this post know that blend-exchange is ready). Firstly, we already have an embed page (http://blend-exchange.giantcowfilms.com/eembedUpload/?qurl=[url of question]) which is ready for use for use in a popup window (I can easily add iframe support as well if need be). ...

There is no daily question limit here. (SO, SU, SF, and Math have a six questions per day limit.) There is however a 50 questions in the last 30 day limit. (If someone hits that, they probably are not using google.) Yet you are still going to bump in to the rate limit because of your history [1] [2] of low quality posts. Your current rate limit (auto ...

My opinion is that ideally I would rather answer a well-worded, illustrated question without having to download a file, save for the cases where they really are required. Suggesting a user should upload a file may encourage them to be lazy in their question writing. This would make it harder for other users to tell whether this question is the same as ...

This would be a very nice addition to the site. Particularly if we could set it on the Ask Questions page so users can attach a small sample file if their problem is too wordy/hard to explain. There are many pros to this. The main ones being that we get centralized location for users of the site to upload their test files and we reduce the cases of link-rot....

I agree that the blender tag should be blacklisted. Could we also look into blacklisting other tags that are inherent with the use of Blender, such as graphics?

6

Ok, this is done - all new tweets here will include the tag #b3d and no other tags whatsoever.

Yes, big thanks to @GiantCowFilms for stepping up. Without seeing the stats for blend-exchange and analytics for BSE it's tricky to establish how much having a convenient and permament .blend hosting feature available has contributed to the firm growth of BSE. I would be surprised if the effect was negligable. Allowing large .blend shares does strike me as ...

First you can't privately contact a SE user. To get in touch with a mod you could: ping them in chat (both gandalf and I are always "pingable," did I just create a new word?, in there). It is ok if you don't want to say it in public, there are ways of creating a private chat room for serious issues. Write up some question on the meta explaining how you ...

(First off, I really like it when users research their own questions first. Nice going.) This "unvoting" may seam unfair but when an account gets removed all votes cast (except in special cases) get removed too, both up and down. So there actually are cases where you gain rep when a user gets removed. Believe it or not, I'm actually not part of "the staff" ...

I'll answer your bullet points in order. Does anyone else think being able to natively typeset mathematical expressions would be valuable to Blender.SE? Yes I asked for it originally, and still think it would be useful. What would be required to enable MathJaX mathematical typesetting for Blender.SE? The SE devs set all that up, from our perspective ...

I've always been against a "image header" contest. I still think it would not work. This is a Q and A site, period. Adding an art contest deviates from our core mission, which is to be the best possible place to ask and get answers for blender. Blender artists is a much better place for art contests. It is a forum, it has a whole contest section already, ...

I can see how it could be useful, but in general I would have to say no, we should not enable it. I feel that having this tool could potentially encourage more tutorial-style answers, which we should generally try to discourage. Most questions and answers on this site should be simple enough to be answered with text and screenshots.

Here's a jsFiddle with my proposal. Changes are all to reflect the Blender menus better: linear gradient for selected color decreased border-radius: it's really only aesthetic; the Blender menus are square changed border color to the actual color (#282828, not #000000) I put the example in context with a paragraph (to show line height), a kbd tag (to ...

How about the 3d and the open-source tag?

Apply design suggestions There is a thread on our design here on meta It would be great if you could apply some of the popular suggestions, and take a look at what the community wants.
